NEW DELHI, May 7 (RIA Novosti)
Medical officers examining the 82-year Indian yogi, who claims to have survived without food or water for 65 years, remain stumped, the research team leader said on Friday.
Prahlad Jani was placed in a hospital from April 22 through May 5 in Ahmedabad, in the westernmost state of Gujarat, to undergo examinations. He was observed day and night by the scientists from the Defense Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS).
"The examination is over, all his analyses are normal. There are few people in the world capable of surviving without food and drink for so long. We would like to find a way to pass these abilities to other people," Sudihr Shah said.
Experts revealed the yogi's kidneys produce limited amounts of urine, but the old man does not have bowel movements. Normal people in such circumstances die from intoxication over several days, doctors say.
Jani said he left home at the age of 7 and lived in the forests of Western India. When he was 11, he received some spiritual revelation and lost the need to eat and drink ever since. He said he obtains powers from an elixir that enters his mouth from the heavens.
